Should I Get an E-Reader, IPad or Something Similar?
Electronic document readers are everywhere now. I still don't have one, but, lately, I've been thinking about this again.
There are so many different kinds available on the market today. At first, if you got one of these in the early days, such as a Kindle, all you could do with this device was read E-Books. Now you have devices called tablets that can be used to read electronic books but they can also do more. Even a lot of the smart phones can be used to read E-Books.
I started thinking about the pros and cons of the types of these devices.
Would I like one more than the other?
Does it really benefit me to have something like the IPad so that I can use it to do some stuff that I normally do on my laptop?
Will it really be a problem to pack both my laptop and one of these devices when I travel?
A definite advantage to getting one of these devices would be that it's easier to use one instead of my laptop if I want to read while in bed. I think my laptop would feel somewhat bulky and be more of a problem to put away when I dozed off. I would hate for my laptop to fall on the floor and get damaged. That sure wouldn't be good.
It is time for me to upgrade my smart phone, but I wouldn't want one that was large enough for me to use as a reader. I think a large smart phone would drive me crazy. I don't carry a big purse so this phone might take up too much room in it. Also, my hands are not that large, so I might have some difficulty handling a large phone with one hand. Definitely don't think I'll consider this possibility very seriously.
My friends tell me that I need to get with the times! Most of them, that are book lovers like me, have one of these devices and they love them. They keep telling me that once I switch, I'll wonder what took me so long to make the decision. I really don't know if that will happen.
Here's my problem. I really like the feel of a real book in my hands. I like to physically turn the page so that I can continue the adventure, mystery or whatever genre of book that I'm reading. I like to flip back to pages to catch something that I might have missed earlier. I like reading the information on the cover of the book. And, for some reason, I like to quickly flip through all the pages before I start reading a new book. I really don't know why I do this, but it does bring me pleasure with the anticipation of starting a new book.
So, there we have it. My dilemma of reading books the old fashion way or getting on with the times like most people.
For now, I've decided to be "old fashioned". I've got a lot to learn about these new devices before I can make a decision as to which one would be best for me. Maybe I'm just set in my ways, but that's okay too.
